Kyrgyzstan wants to use Iran's ports

Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akilbek Zhaparov said that his landlocked country wants to use Iran's seaports for transit and transport purposes.

According to the written statement of the Government of Kyrgyzstan, on October 25, 2023, Chairman of the Council of Ministers Akilbek Zhaparov held a meeting with First Vice President of Iran Mohammad Mohbir, who arrived in Kyrgyzstan to participate in the summit of heads of government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states. During this meeting, held in the government building, Zhaparov congratulated Iran on obtaining full membership in the SCO and stressed that he was confident that Iran would contribute to strengthening the organization's potential, friendship and cooperation between the SCO member states.

 

KYRGYZSTAN WANTS TO USE IRANIAN PORTS

At a meeting where issues of cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Iran were discussed, Zhaparov said that, being a landlocked Kyrgyzstan, they want to use Iran's seaports for transit and transport purposes.

Recalling that Kyrgyzstan has the opportunity to export honey to Iran, Zhaparov also said that it has a significant potential for exporting beans. The Chairman of the Council of Ministers said: "We have a great potential for exporting beans to the Iranian market. In 2022, our gross bean harvest reached 78 thousand 276 tons."

KYRGYZSTAN ALSO EXPECTS INVESTMENTS FROM IRAN

Akilbek Zhaparov expressed satisfaction with the memorandum of understanding signed on October 20, 2023 on the establishment of the Kyrgyz-Iranian Investment Office in Bishkek and stated that the activities of the Office will contribute to the further development of trade and economic cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Iran.

 The Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers also said that the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic is working to create a positive investment climate within the country, and the investment legislation of Kyrgyzstan is "quite liberal".

Mohammad Mohbir noted that Iran wants to strengthen friendly relations with Kyrgyzstan on the basis of friendship and partnership, and that bilateral relations should be brought to a new level.
