The President of the TRNC Tatar stressed the importance of the two-state solution on the island

President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Ersin Tatar stated: "We once again declare to the whole world that if there should be an agreement in Cyprus, then there should be two states based on this agreement."

Tatar President, Vice President Djevdet Yilmaz, TRNC Prime Minister Unal Ustel and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Middle East University (NEU) Professor Dr. Irfan Suat Gunsel attended the opening of the "Dr. NEU Suat Gunsel Mosque" in the capital Nicosia.

In his speech here, Tatar recalled that the mosque will become the largest mosque in the TRNC and congratulated Muslims on the holiday of Regaip Kandili.

Stressing that the struggle of the TRNC and its people is based on faith and love for the country, Tatar also drew attention to Turkey's support in the struggle for "existence".

Tatar recalled that his country is part of the "great Islamic family" and stated that they are working to protect cultural heritage throughout the island.

Stressing the support of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the struggle of the people of the TRNC for acceptance on the basis of sovereign equality, Tatar noted that the Turkish Cypriot people "are determined to continue their existence on the basis of equality."

Noting that many people participated in the construction of the mosque, Tatar congratulated those who contributed to this process.

Tatar also pointed out the importance of opening a mosque and said: "We once again declare to the whole world that if there is to be an agreement in Cyprus, then there should be two states based on this agreement."

"We are implementing big projects one after the other"

Prime Minister Ustel said that the foundation of the "Dr. Suat Gunsel NEU Mosque" was laid within the framework of major projects signed in 2013, and that this great work will be among the mosques with 6 minarets in the homeland of Turkey.

Noting that Turkish Cypriots were subjected to harassment, persecution and genocide until 1974, Ustel said: "We constantly fought not to disappear. But we regained our freedom in 1974, when a peacekeeping operation was carried out. By doing all this, our Homeland, the Republic of Turkey, has always been and continues to be with us."

Ustel also noted that the genocide in Palestine continues, people living there continue to live under bombs, and the whole world is watching it again.

Stressing that Turkey and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan are the only ones who raise their voice against this, Ustel said that the world does not see them.

Ustel stated that they never gave up because of the embargo, isolation and pressure imposed on the TRNC after 1974, and said: "Because our homeland was the Turkish Republic. With the power we get from him, we bring them to life one by one with the big projects we signed with him."

Noting that projects within the framework of agreements signed in 2013 in various fields were implemented one after another, Ustel said that he would meet with Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz about projects in the fields of education, agriculture, healthcare and infrastructure.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees NEU Gunzel said that the mosque, which represents a modern interpretation of Ottoman architecture with its 62 domes and 6 minarets, was completed thanks to the talent, skill and work of the Turkish Cypriots, who have maintained their existence on the island for centuries and will continue to do so.

Wishing that this mosque, which is a symbol of the devotion of the Turkish Cypriots, who are connected with Anatolia by indissoluble ties, to their homeland, would bring blessings to the country and the people, Gunzel said: "Every work born on the Middle East campus is the result of our efforts to keep up with the distance traveled by our homeland Turkey and match our homeland. I believe that these efforts will lead our country and our state into the future and strengthen our Homeland."

After the speeches, the grand opening of the mosque took place with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
