The Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OT), Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliev, participated in the seminar "Enhancing Digital Trade and Investment Potential in Turkic Economies", held in Ankara on December 25, 2023.

 

The report "Turkish Economy 2023: Digital Trade and Investment Report" was presented at the event, which represents the joint work of institutions within the framework of the Network of Official Centers for Economic Policy Research of Turkey (ERCNET). The publication of this first report, prepared by ERCNET, was coordinated jointly by OTG and the Turkish Academy.

 

The main purpose of the workshop is to contribute to the discussion of opportunities and challenges related to digital trade and investment in the Turkish region by presenting the main conclusions and ideas contained in the 2023 report. The talks focused on the use of digital technologies to accelerate economic growth, strengthen trade relations and increase regional investment prospects..

 

The seminar began with introductory speeches by the President of the Turkic Academy, Professor Dr. Shahin Mustafayev, Deputy Minister of Trade of the Republic of Turkey Mr. Mustafa Tuzju and Secretary General of the OTG Mr. Kubanychbek Omuraliev, who stressed the importance of digitalization in trade and investment promotion services for the Turkic economies.

One of the most important parts of the seminar was a thorough presentation by experts interested in the development of the "Report on Turkic Economies 2023: Digital Trade and Investment". This presentation also discusses the main findings, new trends and a comprehensive analysis of the report.

 

In his opening speech, OTG Secretary General Kubanychbek Omuraliev expressed condolences over the death of 12 Turkish servicemen killed during the anti-terrorist operation conducted on December 22-23, 2023.

 

In his speech, the Secretary General stressed the importance of aligning the newly established Turkish Network of Official Economic Policy Research Centers (ERCNET) with the long-term welfare goals set out in the "Vision of the Turkic World 2040" and the "Strategy of the OTG 2022-2026". He also noted the role of the report in identifying trends, shaping policy and directing economic relations. Noting the strategic focus on digital connectivity, the Secretary-General assessed the impact of the report, which calls on Member States to prioritize the digital economy, on the way to the upcoming "Digital Economic Partnership Agreement". Thanking ERCNET and the Turkic Academy for their contribution, the Secretary General expressed the hope that the report would facilitate dialogue between politicians and stakeholders in the Turkic States.
